What to expect on procedure day for your pet

We understand that having your pet undergo anesthesia can be stressful. Our team is committed to providing the highest standard of care from admission through recovery. Below is an overview of what to expect during your pet's procedure day.

Morning Admission

Your pet will be checked in by one of our veterinary technicians, who will review the treatment plan, answer any last-minute questions, and ensure all necessary paperwork is complete.

An intravenous (IV) catheter will be placed to provide safe access for medications and fluids throughout the procedure.

Pre-operative IV fluids will be administered, when indicated, based on your pet's individual needs.
Pre-Anesthetic Evaluation
Before anesthesia, we perform several important safety checks:

A comprehensive physical examination by the veterinarian.

Baseline vital signs obtained by our veterinary technicians, including heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and other appropriate assessments.

Your pet will rest comfortably in a quiet kennel while the team prepares for the procedure.
Anesthesia & Monitoring
When it is time for your pet's procedure:

A carefully selected sedation protocol is administered.

Your pet is pre-oxygenated before anesthesia induction.

Throughout anesthesia, your pet is continuously monitored using advanced equipment, including:

Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG)
-
Blood pressure monitoring
-
Pulse oximetry (oxygen saturation)
-
Body temperature monitoring
-
End-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCOâ‚‚) monitoring

A veterinarian and multiple trained veterinary technicians are present throughout every dental procedure to provide continuous monitoring and patient care.

We have also partnered with a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist, if you are interested in this additional service.
Comprehensive Dental Care
Every professional dental procedure includes:

Full-mouth dental radiographs (X-rays)
-
Professional ultrasonic scaling above and below the gumline
-
Dental polishing to smooth the tooth surfaces
-
A complete oral examination performed by the veterinarian
If additional treatment is needed based on examination and dental radiographs, we will perform the approved procedures, which may include:

Tooth extractions, root planing, and periodontal therapy
-
Endodontic (root canal) treatment, when appropriate
-
Sanos barrier sealant to prevent plaque buildup for up to 6 months
Client Communication
Once the oral examination and treatment are complete, a member of our team will contact you by phone or text message with an update on your pet's procedure, findings, and recovery status.
Recovery
After the procedure:

Your pet will recover in a clean, comfortable, and secure recovery kennel.

A veterinary technician will closely monitor your pet throughout recovery until they are awake, comfortable, and stable.
Going Home
At discharge, you will receive:

Complete discharge instructions with home care recommendations

Any prescribed medications
-
Feeding and activity guidelines
-
Information on recommended Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) accepted dental products to help maintain your pet's oral health at home

A complimentary recheck appointment to assess healing and ensure your pet is recovering as expected
